Our Methodology

How Slatewise Designs a Course

Identify the Real Questions

Courses begin with what participants actually face — not what financial theory says they should face.

Build Understanding in Layers

Concepts are introduced simply, then expanded. Later sessions return to earlier ideas with more depth.

Anchor in the Malaysian Context

Examples, instruments, and regulatory references are drawn from Malaysia throughout each course.

Support Individual Thinking

Review sessions and workbooks help participants apply general learning to their own situations.

The Steady Household Plan
Course 1 · 6 Weeks

The Steady Household Plan

A six-week course built for adults in midlife who want to put a calm structure around their household money. Topics include separating fixed obligations from discretionary spending, understanding the slow drift of monthly subscriptions, building a small reserve for unexpected costs, and looking at recurring expenses through a longer lens. The pace is patient and the tone is non-judgemental, recognising that household finance often becomes harder to organise as life grows more complex.

  • Separating fixed obligations from variable spending
  • Understanding subscription and recurring cost drift
  • Building a practical small reserve
  • Printable household register provided
  • Three individual review sessions included

Course 2 · 7 Sessions

A Considered Look at Insurance in Midlife

A seven-session course that examines the role of life cover, medical cover, critical-illness policies, and disability income insurance for adults in their forties, fifties, and early sixties. The lessons walk through how needs change with age, the difference between term and whole-life policies, why premiums rise as one moves through life, and how to read a policy schedule without legal training. Particular attention is paid to the questions worth asking before any review of an existing policy. The course is built for considered understanding rather than product purchase.

  • Life cover, medical, critical illness, and disability income
  • Term vs whole-life policies explained
  • How to read a policy schedule
  • Policy-review workbook included
  • Moderated discussion forum access

The Long View on Investment Risk
Course 3 · 10 Modules

The Long View on Investment Risk

A ten-module course that takes a careful, theoretically grounded look at investment risk for adults whose investing horizon has shortened from forty years to twenty or fifteen. Topics include how volatility behaves over different holding periods, why sequence of returns matters more near retirement than during accumulation, how Malaysian-specific assets behave through cycles, and how to think about portfolio glide paths without becoming entangled in jargon. Suitable for participants with some prior exposure to investing.

  • Volatility across different holding periods
  • Sequence of returns risk near retirement
  • Malaysian-specific assets through market cycles
